Television X (TVX) is a series of adult television channels in the United Kingdom. It is owned by Portland TV which was a subsidiary of Richard Desmond's publishing company Northern & Shell until 2016. All of the programmes on the main Television X channel are filmed and produced in the United Kingdom.
History Early years. The station signed on the air on May 16, 1965, as independent station WIBF-TV.The station was founded by the Fox family, who held real estate interests in the Philadelphia suburb of Jenkintown; William L. Fox was the station's principal shareholder, along with his brother Irwin C. Fox, their father Benjamin Fox, and business associate Dorothy Kotin.
History As an independent station. The station first signed on the air at 5:00 p.m. on October 16, 1967, as WWOM-TV.The call sign stood for "The Wonderful World of Movies," an adaptation of the "Wonderful World of Music" meaning used by co-owned radio station WWOM (600 AM, now WVOG; and 98.5 FM, now WYLD-FM).
Television X began airing a show using this format, TVX Callgirls Live, in 2005. Another such channel, Babeworld, was fined in 2006 and 2007 and had its licence revoked in 2011. Live XXX TV closed in 2009 with Sex Station, a televised-sex-line show that was one of its major programs, becoming a stand-alone website.
