It takes about 10 pages of test paper for two hours that day. The third test is an interview. The 7th grade civil service exam is divided into two sections. The results are available by March or December, usually 45 days after the last paper has been written. Under the WAEC Marking and Grading Scheme, the letters A to F are used to indicate how good a result is (while the numbers 1-9 are only used to rank the grades).

Each semester had two Formative tests and one summative test. The exam previously was held at the end of the year, but with the semester pattern, the exam is divided into halves. The first half was from April–September and the second half was from October–March.
