The New Mission Theater is a historic building, built in 1916 and is located at 2550 Mission Street in San Francisco, California. The building is listed as a San Francisco Designated Landmark since May 27, 2004; and listed as one of the National Register of Historic Places since November 9, 2001.
By the 1920s the theatre showed motion pictures, as well. [1] This Orpheum theatre is believed to be the second oldest "Orpheum" in the nation (it was built a year after the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles). [2] When the theatre opened, it seated 1,500 people. The theatre closed in 1958–59, and was only opened for special events.
Since 1977, the Orpheum has been the Mid-South home of touring Broadway productions. The Orpheum's two venues also host performances by Ballet Memphis, various concerts, comedians, a summer movie series, a family series of educational programs, and local cultural and community events such as Memphis in May, International Blues Challenge, and special Elvis Week events.

The Orpheum Theater was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. It was also included in the NRHP listing of the New Orleans Lower Central Business District in 1991. The theater was severely damaged in 2005 by Hurricane Katrina and the associated levee failure floodwaters [ 6 ] [ 7 ] and was sold to a Dallas businessman. [ 4 ]
