Francis Nelson Blount was born May 21, 1918, in Warren, Rhode Island, to Willis and Ruth Blount.Willis had established an ice company in neighboring Barrington in 1919. As a child, Nelson (as he would be called) and brother Luther assisted their father at the family business.
The community was named after James Henderson Blount (1837–1903), U.S. congressman from Georgia. [2] A post office called Blount was established in 1887, and remained in operation until 1906. [ 3 ] In 1900, the community had 57 inhabitants.
