The Pocono Record was founded as the Stroudsburg Daily Times [2] on April 2, 1894. In 1946 the newspaper was purchased by James H. Ottaway, Sr., becoming the third newspaper in what would become the Ottaway Community Newspapers chain, which was purchased by Dow Jones and Company in the 1980's. Dow Jones was eventually purchased by News Corp.

The community of Indian Mountain Lake lies at the southern edge of the Poconos, on top of Pohopoco Mountain and extending north to the valley of Mud Run, which is impounded to form the small Indian Mountain Lake. The Schisler Museum was named after Arthur (1962) and Fannie Greene (1962) Schisler, alumni of East Stroudsburg University, who donated most of the taxidermic mounts on display. [5] The museum was completed in 2013 and was available to school groups on a limited basis until opening to the general public in 2016.
Built by Stroudsburg's founder Jacob Stroud for his son, John Stroud, it remained in the Stroud family until 1893, although it was leased for a time for use as a store and as a boarding house. It now houses the Monroe County Historical Association. [2] It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. [1]
