Peel County is a historic county in the Canadian province of Ontario. Named for Sir Robert Peel, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, the county was organized in 1851. Settlers, however, were in Toronto Township as early as 1807. The Credit River was reserved for the Mississaugas; however, they sold their land and moved to the Bruce Peninsula.
The Peel Regional Police (PRP) provides policing services for Peel Region (excluding Caledon) in Ontario, Canada.It is the second largest municipal police service in the Greater Toronto Area in Ontario, and the third largest municipal force behind the Toronto Police Service, with 2,200 uniformed members and close to 875 support staff.

Peel Council was formed in 1973 when the Regional Municipality of Peel was created to replace the old Peel County. It was created by the province to deal with counties with significant growth patterns. It is supposed to mimic the role of the former Metro Toronto Council .
