M426 8-inch shell. The M426 8-inch shell was a 203 mm (8.0 in) chemical artillery shell designed for use by the U.S. Army. It was designed to be used with approximately 14.5 lb (6.6 kg) of GB or VX (nerve agent).
The storage began in the 1940s with mustard gases and was greatly expanded in the 1960s with GB and VX (O-ethyl S-methylphosphonothioate or nerve agent) <Blue Grass Army Depot, 2005>. Blue Grass Army Depot was the final location with declared chemical weapons remaining. It completed destruction of the chemical weapons on July 7, 2023.
