The Calera Presbyterian Church is the oldest church building in the City of Calera, and one few remaining structures that date from the early town history. Now on the Historical Register, the church was donated to the city a few years ago.
The city is located east of Birmingham along Interstate 20, which runs north of the city. Access to the city is available from exits 140 and 144. In 2016, a bill to incorporate Fort Morgan was not considered by the Alabama legislature. The Fort Morgan Civic Association has stated that incorporation would enable the community to protect itself from waterfront development, after Alabama made a "$1.8 million investment in renovating the state's rundown beach house there".
