University of Sri Lanka. The University of Sri Lanka was a public university in Sri Lanka. Established in 1972 by amalgamating the four existing universities, it was the only university in Sri Lanka from 1972 until 1978. The university was based at six campuses in Colombo, Peradeniya, Sri Jayewardenepura, Kelaniya, Moratuwa and Jaffna.
The concept of establishing the Open University of Sri Lanka was by Dr. Nissanka Wijeyeratne the Cabinet Minister of Education & Higher Education at the time. [3] [4]As Cabinet Minister of Education and Higher Education, [5] Wijeyeratne introduced the Universities Act No 16 of 1978 to Parliament. [3]
ICBT Campus also known as International College of Business and Technology, popularly known as the ICBT Campus is a BOI-approved project formed to conduct internationally recognised educational programs in association with educational institutes. The Rajarata University of Sri Lanka was established as the eleventh University in Sri Lanka and was opened on 31 January 1996 by President Chandrika Kumaratunga. Over the years, the university has developed to become a centre of excellence in higher education in the North Central Province as well as in Sri Lanka .

The University of Visual and Performing Arts has a history spanning over 120 years. The origin of the University of the Visual and Performing Arts can be traced back to 1893, the era in which the Ceylon Technical College was established. Among the first courses to be taught at the college were Drawing and Painting.
