The Uniform Certified Public Accountant Examination ( CPA Exam) is the examination administered to people who wish to become U.S. Certified Public Accountants. The CPA Exam is used by the regulatory bodies of all fifty states plus the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and the Northern Mariana Islands .
The California Board of Accountancy (CBA) was established in 1901 in San Francisco. All the records were destroyed in the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and fire, including all the documents of the first 65 licensees. [1] Although 1909 is considered the year CalCPA was officially founded, public accountant organizations began forming before that time in California.
State boards of accountancy are responsible for assessing eligibility of candidates to sit for the CPA examination.
