[ 1] Its county seat is Neosho. [ 2] The county was organized in 1838 and is named in honor of John Newton, a hero who fought in the Revolutionary War.
Neosho River. The Neosho River is a tributary of the Arkansas River in eastern Kansas and northeastern Oklahoma in the United States. Its tributaries also drain portions of Missouri and Arkansas. Camp Crowder was a military installation named in honor of Major General Enoch H. Crowder, a native Missourian who was the provost marshal of the United States during World War I and author of the Selective Service Act of 1917.
