The county seat is Eastland. [2] The county was founded in 1858 and later organized in 1873. [3] It is named for William Mosby Eastland, a soldier during the Texas Revolution and the only officer to die as a result of the "Black Bean executions" of the Mier Expedition. Two Eastland County communities, Cisco and Ranger, have junior colleges.
One district and one individual property are listed on the national register in the county. The individually listed property is a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark (RTHL) and is part of the district, which includes additional RTHLs. Eastland is located north of the center of Eastland County at 32°23′05″N 98°49′03″W (32.4015199, -98.8175623). [2] It is 96 miles (154 km) west-southwest of Fort Worth and 55 miles (89 km) east of Abilene. The city is accessed by Interstate 20 between exits 340 to the south and 343 to the east.
