History. The university was founded as the Jamaica Institute of Technology in 1958. The following year it was incorporated as the College of Arts, Science and Technology (CAST), and was formally recognised by an Act of Parliament in 1964. It was granted degree awarding powers in 1986 and a governing council and academic board were established.

Errol York St Aubyn Morrison (born 21 September 1945) is a Jamaican scientist who has done extensive work in diabetes and is president of the University of Technology, Jamaica. [1] He entered the University College of the West Indies where he acquired an interest in Biochemistry.

In 1999, Isaacs became the first female to head the Caribbean School of Architecture and was the first female fellow of the Jamaica Institute of Architects. She also led the faculty of the Built Environment at the University of Technology in Kingston. Isaacs died after a lengthy bout with cancer on 16 June 2004 in Kingston, Jamaica.
