At one point, East Gaston was the largest high school in Gaston County.
The state of North Carolina began the process of converting the academy into a public school in 1922. Cherryville Township is a township in northwestern Gaston County, North Carolina, United States.As of the 2010 census it had a population of 16,500. It includes the incorporated city of Cherryville, the inactive incorporated town of Dellview, the unincorporated community of Tryon, and a portion of the town of High Shoals (most of which is in Dallas Township).
Northampton County High School – West and Northampton County High School – East merged in the summer of 2012 to become a single school: Northampton County High School (NCHS). The school then moved on what was the NCHS-East campus in Conway, North Carolina. Now known as the Jaguars, the school colors are teal, white and navy blue.
