At the May 17, 2016 Montgomery Independent School District Board of Trustees meeting, the following names were chosen for the new schools to be built using the bonds approved in 2015: Lake Creek High School, Oak Hills Junior High School, Keenan Elementary School, and Lincoln Elementary School (formerly Montgomery Intermediate School) [7]
Early College High School (ECHS) at Midland College is located on the main campus in the Allison Fine Arts Building. The school welcomed its first freshman class on August 24, 2009. The goal for ECHS is that by the time "the students receive their high school diploma, they will also have an associate's degree from Midland College." [12]
The roots of Midland Public Schools go back to the 1872 Union High School, which educated local students until a boiler explosion destroyed the building in 1907.A new school was constructed the following year using a large donation from the local Dow Chemical Company.
