Midland Independent School District is a public school district in Midland, Texas. Midland ISD contains 41 campuses. It includes the portions of Midland and Odessa in Midland County. [2] Led by Superintendent of Schools Dr. Stephanie D. Howard, over 26,000 students are spread out amongst the various campuses.
In 1907, Midland Independent School District was established. [3] The first building to be officially named Midland High School was built in 1926 on the site of what is now Fasken Center, at 600 Texas Street. [3] After 23 years in the Texas Street location, in 1949 Midland High School moved to its present location at 906 West Illinois. [3]
The school originally opened its doors in 1961, seven years before the city’s high schools integrated. [4] In October 2020, the Midland school board voted to rename the school "Legacy High School". [5] The Midland ISD board vote to rename had six board members voting for, and one voting against the school's name change.
