Western Illinois University ( WIU) is a public university in Macomb, Illinois. It was founded in 1899 as Western Illinois State Normal School. As the normal school grew, it became Western Illinois State Teachers College. Once Western Illinois started offering graduate degrees, it again changed its name to Western Illinois State College.
Sherman Hall opened to the public in 1902 as the main building of Western Illinois State Normal School. Sherman Hall was the school's only building until Garwood Hall was built in 1914. At the turn of the 20th century, the hall contained classrooms, an auditorium, a gymnasium, a library, laboratories and administrative offices.
History. The Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois (CARLI) began operating on July 1, 2005. CARLI was formed through the consolidation of existing consortia: Illinois Cooperative Collection Management Program (ICCMP), Illinois Digital Academic Library (IDAL), and Illinois Library Computer Systems Organization (ILCSO).
