Colgate University is a private liberal arts college in Hamilton, New York.The college was founded in 1819 as the Baptist Education Society of the State of New York and operated under that name until 1823, when it was renamed Hamilton Theological and Literary Institution, often called Hamilton College (1823–1846), then Madison College (1846–1890), and its present name since 1890.

The centerpiece of the campus is the Student Services center, a 52,000-square-foot (4,800 m 2) hub housing the enrollment and financial aid offices, classrooms, a student lounge, dining facilities and a 300-seat theatre/auditorium. The campus also features a library, physical education facilities and Milton Hall, the main campus classroom building.
Colgate Raiders. The Colgate Raiders men's basketball team represents Colgate University in Hamilton, New York in NCAA Division I competition. The school's team competes in the Patriot League and play their home games in Cotterell Court. The Raiders have appeared in seven NCAA tournaments, most recently in 2024.
