Lao cuisine or Laotian cuisine is the national cuisine of Laos . The staple food of the Lao is sticky rice ( Lao: ເຂົ້າໜຽວ, khao niao, pronounced [kʰȁw.nǐa̯w] ). Laos has the highest sticky rice consumption per-capita in the world with an average of 171 kilograms (377 lb) of sticky rice consumed annually per person.

Master Synanonh started playing the khaen at age twelve and later lost his eyesight at age 15. Master Synanonh immigrated to the U.S. as a refugee in the early 1980s. Laos is served by a Russian Intersputnik satellite that covers the Indian Ocean region. In 1998 there were 12 AM stations and one FM station. In 1997 there were an estimated 730,000 radios in the country. In 2011 Laos had three television channels. In 2000 there was one Internet service provider, by 2002 serving about 10,000 users.
Other organisations include the Lao-Australian Welfare Association based in Forest Hill, VIC and the Lao Australian Society which advocates for the development of Lao culture in the country. Additionally, the Laotian Language Program operated by SBS Radio caters to the Lao community and is run on Mondays from 4-5pm and Saturdays at 9-10pm.
