Joseph Ryerson (father) Sarah Stickney (mother) Adolphus Egerton Ryerson (24 March 1803 – 19 February 1882) [1] was a Canadian educator, author, editor, and Methodist minister who was a prominent contributor to the design of the Canadian public school system. [2][3] Ryerson is considered to be the founder of the Ontario public school system.
Egerton Ryerson is widely known for his contributions to Ontario's public educational system. As Chief Superintendent of Education, Ryerson's recommendations were instrumental in the design and implementation of the Indian Residential School System.
Egerton Ryerson Young (1840–1909) was a Canadian teacher, Methodist missionary, lecturer, and author. By sharing his travels and mission work in his writing, E.R. Young helped popularize Methodist missions and expand the knowledge of the region.
The Christian Guardian was a Wesleyan Methodist journal founded in Upper Canada in 1829. The first editor was Egerton Ryerson.It ceased publication in 1925 when the Methodist Church of Canada merged with the Presbyterians and Congregationalists to form the United Church of Canada, and merged their journals to create The New Outlook, later renamed the United Church Observer.

On 24 August 1870, Reverend Egerton Ryerson, who had been the pastor of the earlier Methodist church on Adelaide Street, laid the cornerstone for Metropolitan Wesleyan Methodist Church in Toronto. He was later a member and a trustee of the Metropolitan congregation for many years and his funeral was held there at the church as well.
