Tao Nan became the first Chinese school to change the medium of instruction from the Hokkien dialect to Mandarin. One of the teachers was the philanthropist Lee Kong Chian (1894–1967). Pioneer artist Pan Shou was the headmaster from 1932 to 1940. In 1982, Tao Nan School moved to a new campus in Marine Parade, where it still remains to this date.
Tao Nan School (1892–1957) Holy Innocents' High School was founded as Tao Nan School in 1892, as one of the first Chinese Mission Schools in Singapore. The Old Tao Nan School is a historic building in Singapore, located along Armenian Street in the Museum Planning Area, within the Central Area. Tao Nan School was founded as a Chinese medium school in 1892, and is known as Holy Innocents’ High School today. Holy Innocents’ English School was then established as a parish school in 1916 to the left of the church premises. Later taken over by the Gabrielite Brothers and renamed Monfort's School in 1936.
