The intent of this collaboration is to polish the many good articles within Wikipedia, to bring them up to the highest standards expected of Wikipedia.. The article selected will likely have already been through one or both of Peer Review and Featured article candidacy, so the first steps are to see if any of the issues raised still need to be addressed.
On August 30, 2001, the very first organized collaboration to improve an article was started: a short "article-a-day" e-mail on the Milgram experiment sent during a simpler time when only 145 people had user pages. Current GACo, which was improved during the last week, but still needs more effort, perhaps by a wider community of editors. The WikiProject Open Collaboration of the Week invites project members to focus on one or two specific articles every week, so we can build on each other's efforts and make substantial improvements in a short period of time.
