FairPoint was subsequently acquired by Consolidated Communications. The company was named Telephone Operating Company of Vermont LLC until March 19, 2019. The company is not connected to FairPoint Vermont , an operating company consisting of former GTE lines that FairPoint owned since before acquiring the Verizon assets.
NNETO is separate from Northern Telephone Company of Maine, a FairPoint subsidiary which consists of some former Contel lines sold off by GTE in 1994. Effective January 28, 2019, the company was renamed Consolidated Communications of Northern New England Company, LLC following the purchase of FairPoint by Consolidated Communications. See also

On April 1, 2008, Verizon's operations in Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont were sold to FairPoint Communications as Northern New England Telephone Operations and Telephone Operating Company of Vermont.
