It is part of the South Carolina Technical College System and one of three colleges in the city of Rock Hill. Goodricke College is a college of the University of York.It was founded in 1968 and named after the astronomer John Goodricke. The York Mechanics' Institute was founded in 1827 and taught art and science classes. By 1877, the institute had a library that contained over 10,000 volumes.
