Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) is a public school district in Los Angeles, California, United States.It is the largest public school system in California in terms of number of students and the 2nd largest public school district in the United States, with only the New York City Department of Education having a larger student population.
The building constructed in 1871 was razed thirty years later to give way to the grade school building on East King Street, converted into Community Center in 1963. The new building was constructed by John Eline, who was The Builder in those days, at a cost of $10,000 and boasted a hot water furnace and spacious rooms and halls.
Oakdale Avenue School (1962-1976) Located at 6844 Oakdale Avenue, Winnetka, Los Angeles, California. The school was sold to reopen as AGBU Manoogian-Demirdjian School. Oso Avenue Elementary School (closed 2003) – located at 5724 Oso Avenue, Woodland Hills, California. This school was demolished in 2016.
At a time of declining enrollment at L.A. Unified and statewide, Porter Ranch Community School is the only LAUSD campus that's full and turning away families.
