State of Tennessee v. RaDonda L. Vaught was an American legal trial in which former Vanderbilt University Medical Center nurse RaDonda Vaught was convicted of criminally negligent homicide and impaired adult abuse after she mistakenly administered the wrong medication that killed a patient in 2017. [1] She was sentenced to three years' probation.
Levi Watkins Jr. (June 13, 1944 – April 11, 2015) was an American heart surgeon and civil rights activist. On February 4, 1980, he and Vivien Thomas were the first to successfully implant an automatic defibrillator in a human patient at Johns Hopkins University.
Wilkins attended Howard University in Washington, D.C.; Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC; and Washington University in St. Louis, MO. [13] She received a bachelor's degree in microbiology from Howard University, an M.D. from Howard University College of Medicine (1996) and a Master of Science in Clinical Investigation from Washington University School of Medicine (2002).
In 1960, African-American Divinity student James Lawson was expelled from the university for his Civil Rights activism by Chancellor Harvie Branscomb. [3] One of Vanderbilt's trustees, James Geddes Stahlman, published misleading stories in a newspaper he owned, The Nashville Banner, which suggested Lawson had incited others to "violate the law" and led to his expulsion. [3]
Alfred Blalock (April 5, 1899 – September 15, 1964) was an American surgeon most noted for his work on the medical condition of shock as well as tetralogy of Fallot – commonly known as blue baby syndrome.
It is part of the Vanderbilt University Medical Center. The Vanderbilt Cancer Center was established in 1993 and received its initial NCI designation in 1995. It was renamed the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in 1999 after a significant donation from the Ingram family. The center received its NCI "comprehensive" cancer center status in 2001.
