Also, the new community portal which would have only COTWs, opens tasks, etc. could include announcement section: a place where people could announce Wiki news - new projects, proposals, policies, portals, updates, ask for votes, etc. Because now there is no central place where you can go and see what is new in the wiki world.

I use Community portal all the time because it's on the sidebar, but I use it only to get to the Village Pump and the Signpost. It's the fastest way I know of to get to either. The new change leaves the Village Pump accessible, but now I have to scroll down to get to the Signpost. If there's another way just as fast, I don't mind.
Anyway, only one vote favored combining the Community Portal and Main Page; I think the consensus is running well against that option. And of the four voters for the option of putting Community Portal in a place other than the sidebar, each of them also voted for at least one option involving removing some link from the sidebar.
