Following three years of planning, the Abu Dhabi University was inaugurated in June 2003 [8] [9] and opened its doors to students in September 2003. According to the university, its founders "envisioned an institution that would be among the best in the United Arab Emirates , the Arabian Gulf region , and the world".
The school has three campuses. The Junior School at Al Garhoud accommodates Pre-Primary classes (girls and boys KG1–Grade 4). The Senior School in Oud Metha includes girls' Grades 5 to 12, who commence in the early morning shift (7:00 am to 2:00 pm), boys' Grades 5 to 12, who commence in the late morning shift (9:10 am to 4:00 pm).

This campus is located outside the main city, in The Gardens (Jebel Ali).The school buildings today comprise five computer labs, a physics lab, a biology lab, a chemistry lab, a maths lab, language labs, four libraries, two auditoriums, a basketball court, a cricket ground, a multi-sports complex, a rectangle field for many sports, two cafeterias and two clinics, one for boys and one for girls.
