Rowan County, Kentucky. / 38.19°N 83.42°W / 38.19; -83.42. Rowan County ( / raʊn /, / ˈroʊ.ɪn /) is a county located in the northeastern part of the U.S. state of Kentucky, in the Eastern Kentucky Coalfield region. As of the 2020 census, the population was 24,662. [1] Its county seat is Morehead.
The Old Rowan County Courthouse, located on Main Street in Morehead, Kentucky, was built in 1899. Since the early 21st century, it is used as the home of the Rowan County Arts Center. [2] It is a two-story brick building on a rusticated limestone foundation. [3] The courthouse was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. [1]
