John Huppenthal (born March 3, 1954) is an American politician who served as Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction from 2011 to 2015. Prior to being elected Superintendent, Huppenthal served as City Councilman, State Representative, and State Senator. Huppenthal was also a Senior Planning Analyst for Salt River Project.
Rice began his public education career at Washington, D.C. Public Schools, where he taught high school French. Rice went on to serve five years as superintendent of Clifton Public Schools in New Jersey, and then 12 years as that of Kalamazoo Public Schools in Michigan. [2] Rice was named Michigan Superintendent of the Year in 2015.
