Beginnings. The first school in Jefferson County and the second school in Colorado opened in Golden on January 9, 1860. It stood at around today's 1304 Washington Avenue and was a rented log cabin, with school taught by Thomas Daughterty, with 18 students, financed through tuition and subscription. Its second term was taught by Miss M. F. Manly.
In 1962, the Mississippi Gulf Coast Junior College District was formed, and three years later, Mississippi Gulf Coast Junior College added the Jefferson Davis and Jackson County campuses. Between 1965 and 1985, 4 new centers were opened. The college name was changed to Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College on October 1, 1987.
The school uses the Infinite Campus school management system for tasks such as student attendance and grading, and full online grade access is available online. In 2011, the school was split into theme schools, with four smaller academies operating within the high school, in order to give students a choice in areas they wanted to pursue.

Central campus is on 1222 S Jefferson St, Lockport, Illinois. It was built in 1909 and has had many major renovations over its 110 year lifespan, including the addition of an indoor swimming pool, two gymnasiums, auditorium, cafeteria, library, and 100+ more classrooms. Central also has a WWI Memorial Shrine outside the Main Gym.
