Brandon Teena. Brandon Teena[note 1] (December 12, 1972 – December 31, 1993) was an American transgender man who was raped and later, along with Phillip DeVine and Lisa Lambert, murdered in Humboldt, Nebraska, by John Lotter and Tom Nissen. Before the film's theatrical release, Lana Tisdel sued the film's producers, claiming that the film depicted her as "lazy, white trash and a skanky snake" [114] and that her family and friends had come to see her as "a lesbian who did nothing to stop a murder". [115] Tisdel settled her lawsuit against Fox Searchlight for an undisclosed sum.
