Nālandā University is a premier research university located in the ancient city of Rajgir in the state of Bihar, India.Designated as an Institute of National Importance (INI) and excellence, it is the flagship project of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) of the Government of India, [3] and the successor of the famed Nalanda monastery of medieval India.
It is the only university in the state of Bihar meant for imparting education exclusively through distance education. In 1995, the Nalanda Open University Act [6] was passed by the legislature of Bihar replacing the earlier ordinance, and this university thereafter came under the authority and jurisdiction of the passed act.
