Penfield is a town in Monroe County, New York, United States.The population was 39,438 at the 2020 census. The town was incorporated in 1810 by the proprietor Daniel Penfield, a veteran of the Revolutionary War who purchased the town lands in 1795 and moved to the area in 1809.

The Penfield Central School District was created in 1948 by combining five of the common school districts in the Town of Penfield (Districts 2, 3. 5. 7 and 8), an adjourning common school district in Wayne County (Macedon-Walworth Common School District #12) and the Penfield Union Free School District (District 1).
High School West, also known as Hills West, [citation needed] is located at 375 Wolf Hill Road in Dix Hills, New York. [6] The school was built in 1975 and in its first year was 10th grade only, for class of '78. After its first year of classes, the district was split and the two high schools became typical 10, 11, 12 grade each.
The school and its grounds are used by fourth-grade teachers in the Penfield Central School District and other local school districts as part of the state-mandated local history curriculum. [2] The red brick building was designated a Penfield Landmark in 1983 [3] and added to the National Register of Historic Places on July 5, 2001.
