It was founded in the City of Manila in 1956 by the group of doctors.
OMMC was established on January 31, 1969, by the government of the City of Manila. The primary motivation in establishing the Medical Center was to provide city residents, 80% of who are classified as indigents, a better standard of medical care. It was originally planned to provide a total in-patient capacity of 300 beds and 60–90 nursery cribs.
It is designated as the National University Hospital, and the national government referral center. It stands within a 10-hectare (25-acre) site located at the UP Manila Campus in Ermita, Manila. PGH has 1,100 beds and 400 private beds, and has an estimated of 4,000 employees to serve more than 600,000 patients every year. [3]
