Founded in 1909 as a teacher's college (originally, Keene Normal School; later, Keene Teachers College ), Keene State College had 3,104 students enrolled for credit as of fall 2021.
It served as Keene's hospital until 1973 when the Cheshire Medical Center was built and then was acquired by Keene State College shortly afterwards; it now houses a variety of student support offices.
