Lodi (/ ˈ l oʊ d aɪ / LOH-dye) is a city located in San Joaquin County, California, United States, in the center portion of California's Central Valley. The population was 66,348 at the 2020 census. Lodi is best known for wine grape production, although its vintages have historically been less prestigious than those of Sonoma and Napa counties.
The Lodi News-Sentinel was founded in 1881 by Ralph Ellis, a former sheriff, farmer and flourmill operator. Ownership has changed over the years from Ralph Ellis to Samuel B. Axtell to Fordyce P. Roper and George H. Moore, to Clyde C. Church, and to Fred E. Weybret.

Lodi AVA is an American Viticultural Area located in the Central Valley of California, at the northern edge of the San Joaquin Valley, east of San Francisco Bay.The AVA gained approval as a designated wine growing area in 1986 and includes 551,000 acres (223,000 ha) of which 103,000 acres (42,000 ha) are currently planted with wine grapes.
