On 9 September 2016, West Point broke ground in order to begin construction of the new 31,000 square foot Malek West Point Visitors Center. It is being built on the location of the former visitor's center. The Malek West Point Visitors Center is named after Frederic Malek, USMA Class of 1959 and a 2014 Distinguished Graduate. [116]

Dedicated in honor of Colonel Eleazer Wood, an engineer officer and 1806 graduate of West Point who was killed in the War of 1812.
