The University of York Library is the library service for students and staff at the University of York, England. The current library physical premises comprise a series of three linked buildings to the north side of the University of York Heslington West campus. York's first two Colleges, Derwent and Langwith were founded in 1965, and were followed by Alcuin and Vanbrugh in 1967. [5] Goodricke and Wentworth were founded shortly afterwards, in 1968 and 1972 respectively. After 1972 the construction of Colleges ceased until 1990 with the foundation of James College, York.
Campus East is a 287 acres (116 ha) site which is part of the University of York. The campus is situated around a 35 acres (14 ha) lake mirroring the design of Campus West. [1] The site currently contains five colleges ( Langwith, Goodricke, Constantine, Anne Lister, and David Kato) along with social hubs and academic departments.
Goodricke College is a college of the University of York. It was founded in 1968 and named after the astronomer John Goodricke. [3] The college has approximately 1500 undergraduate members, of which some 500 live in college accommodation, and about 140 postgraduate members, of which most live in college accommodation.
When acquired by the University, it was merged with Vanbrugh College, and now serves as off-campus accommodation for 90 students. Le Page Court - Le Page is the oldest accommodation on campus. Used as undergraduate accommodation, the former blocks A and B were renamed when the college let go of its old C block.
The Department of Chemistry at the University of York opened in 1965 with Sir Richard Norman being the founding professor of the department. The department has since grown to over 820 students and provides both undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Chemistry and other related fields, with the current Head of department being Professor Caroline Dessent.
