It includes almost all of Redlands, the majority of Loma Linda, all of the unincorporated community of Mentone, the eastern half of Highland and a small section of San Bernardino in San Bernardino County. The Barton School House, built in 1877, is the oldest building in Redlands. The historic elementary school closed down in the 1960s and deteriorated at its Nevada Street location. By early 2008, construction had become huge in the area surrounding it and the land the property sat on was purchased for development.

Its Clock auditorium was completed in 1928. The Girls' Gymnasium was completed as a New Deal Era project by the Public Works Administration in 1936.
