In 1922, it was reorganized as the Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Conference ( MASCAC or MAC).

Charter members included The Catholic University of America, Gallaudet University, Mary Washington College (now the University of Mary Washington), Marymount University, St. Mary's College of Maryland, and York College of Pennsylvania, effective beginning in the 1989-90 academic year.
Born and raised in Pennsylvania, Bastress wrestled for Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania as a freshman, before transferring to York College of Pennsylvania for his sophomore season. A two-time national champion under coach Tom Kessler, Bastress compiled an overall record of 97-6 at York.
