Badan Penyelenggara Jaminan Sosial Kesehatan (BPJS Kesehatan, lit. 'Social Security Agency on Health') is a social security agency of Indonesia aimed at providing universal health care to its citizens. [1] BPJS Kesehatan is one of two social security agencies in the country alongside BPJS Ketenagakerjaan [id].
The Ministry of Health (Indonesian: Kementerian Kesehatan) is a government ministry which organize public health affairs within the Indonesian government.
Healthcare provision in Indonesia has traditionally been fragmented, with private insurance being provided for those who can afford it alongside basic public coverage for the most impoverished in society and NGOs working in specialised areas providing services to those not covered by public or private schemes.
In 2014, Indonesia introduced its universal healthcare program, the Jaminan Kesehatan Nasional (JKN), which is provided by BPJS Kesehatan (Badan Penyelenggara Jaminan Sosial Kesehatan, Health Social Security Agency). [3] It is currently covering over 200 million people. Around 20 million people in Indonesia is covered by private health insurance. [1]

Puskesmas Watas Warga Curup Selatan, Rejang Lebong, Bengkulu. The Pusat Kesehatan Masyarakat (lit. ' Community Health Center '), abbreviated as Puskesmas, are government-mandated community health clinics located across Indonesia. They are overseen by the Indonesian Ministry of Health and provide healthcare for the population on sub-district level.
Indonesia is currently building a universal healthcare system with its Jaminan Kesehatan Nasional (JKN) scheme, managed by BPJS Kesehatan, which covers a range of treatments from public providers as well as private providers that opt to participate. The scheme is funded by premiums from the employed.
