Rowan County, Kentucky. /  38.19°N 83.42°W  / 38.19; -83.42. Rowan County ( / raʊn /, / ˈroʊ.ɪn /) is a county located in the northeastern part of the U.S. state of Kentucky, in the Eastern Kentucky Coalfield region. As of the 2020 census, the population was 24,662. [1] Its county seat is Morehead.

The Downtown Morehead Historic District, in Morehead in Rowan County, Kentucky, is a 30.37 acres (12.29 ha) historic district which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2022. [1] [2] [3] Its area is the original downtown business district area, as of 1881. [4]
The Daniel Boone National Forest (originally the Cumberland National Forest) is a national forest in Kentucky. Established in 1937, it includes 708,000 acres (287,000 ha) of federally owned land within a 2,100,000-acre (850,000 ha) proclamation boundary. The name of the forest was changed in 1966 in honor of the explorer Daniel Boone .
The Old Rowan County Courthouse, located on Main Street in Morehead, Kentucky, was built in 1899. Since the early 21st century, it is used as the home of the Rowan County Arts Center. [2] It is a two-story brick building on a rusticated limestone foundation. [3] The courthouse was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. [1]
