The timing calculator as far as a formula just merely shows how much fuel is injected BTDC vs ATDC. The old rule of diesel is 50%, meaning 50% before TDC and 50% after. However this simply doesn't take in effect the real world results. You can't compute the point of ignition which is the fundamental factor in timing the engine.

I would look at 4.30, maybe even 4.56. I have 3.73 and will go to 4.11, but I have 35's. If I had 37's, I would go 4.30 or 4.56. Sent from my Pixel 5 using Tapatalk. Looks like the ol’ gear calculator puts 4.1 as my “return to stock ratio, coming from 33.8” to 37” tires. That would put the RPM range back to where it was with stock tires.
It's perfect for towing on my 38s, you'll never do 80mph again if you go to 4:56. 4.10 for higher speed freeway driving. If you never go above 70 then go to 4.30 and you shouldn't be sacrificing to much on the fuel milage end and will be in the best shape for towing. Sent from my SM-N975U using Tapatalk.
As for timing: Find a timing calculator on line. You have to use a Timing Calculator. Once you have one , decide how much before TDC you want the fuel shot and the calculator will give timing values. It does this by comparing your current duration table /timing table and your input of how much fuel BTDC you want to inject.
I went thru this same scenario about 6 months ago. Went online and tried to find a tire/wheel calculator for duallys, couldn’t find one. Then I decided it was time to learn to do the math myself for offset. Was hoping to find a 35” wheel/tire that wouldn’t stick way outside the fenders and I didn’t want spacers or adapters.
If a customer wants the best performing 68RFE behind a tuned Cummins, I recommend two supporting mods. A high performance valve body and an ultra low stall triple disc torque converter from Revmax. Those two items make a 68RFE perform like it should. We tune for Revmax and we have zero issues with their products.
