The number I was called from is 1-800-496-1081, and I talked with an actual Amazon rep and had most of my issues addressed. I had forgotten one thing and called that same number back instead of going through their contact page again, and that's when the free offer is given. Thinking it was Amazon, I agreed and went through the motions.

I changed my password and canceled my credit card and notified Amazon of the fraud. In response, Amazon locked my account. When I call the number to unlock, they ask three security questions, most of which require my being able to access my account. For example, what's the last item on my wish list, or what date did I start my account.
