North Carolina. (2020) Cabarrus County (/ kəˈbɛərəs / kuh-BAIR-us) [ 1 ][ 2 ] is a county located in the south-central part of the U.S. state of North Carolina. As of the 2020 census, the population was 225,804, making it the 9th-most populous county in North Carolina. [ 3 ] The county seat is Concord, [ 4 ] which was incorporated in 1803.
Central has been consistently recognized as a "School of Distinction" under the state's ABC standards for public schools. English teacher Susan Deaton Parker was named Cabarrus County Teacher of the Year for the 2005–2006 academic year. Math teacher Allison Hahn was named Cabarrus County Teacher of the Year for the 2014–2015 academic year. [6]

The historic Cabarrus County Courthouse in Concord, North Carolina was completed in 1876, [ 2] replacing one that was destroyed by fire just the previous year. [ 3] It was designed by architect G.S.H. Appleget. It includes Second Empire, Italianate, Classical Revival, and other architecture.
First opened on September 2, 1895 (one session held in fall 1893), it is the oldest public high school in Cabarrus County and one of the oldest extant in North Carolina. It became part of Cabarrus County Schools in 1983 when Concord City Schools merged with the county school system. It is also a half regular high school and half IB high school.
