The Annandale Campus is located in central Fairfax County and primarily serves the residents of the county. The campus began as one building constructed in 1967 on a 78-acre site. In 1969, three additional buildings were erected and the TV/Technical Building followed in 1970. The Nursing Building was completed in 1972.
FCPS enrolls approximately 11,287 students in 20 schools (11 elementary schools, 5 middle schools, 3 high schools, 1 alternative learning school). The school board is currently led by Chairman Donna Grove, appointed in 2008. [2] The school system finished with a graduation rate of 95.5% for the class of 2017. [3]
Paul VI opened for the 1983–84 school year, accepting freshmen and sophomore students only. The next year (1984–85), the school was open to freshmen through juniors, and 1985–86 saw the first senior class.
West Potomac High School was formed by combining the student bodies and staff of Groveton and Fort Hunt High Schools in 1985. The Fairfax County School Board, citing costs and declining enrollment as causes, decided to close Fort Hunt and combine the schools on Groveton's site under a new name.

James Madison High School continually surpasses most Virginia schools in statewide and nationwide exams. For the 2023 school year, there was a 93.71% pass rate on English:Reading SOLs, >50% pass rate on English:Writing SOLs, >50% pass rate on History and Social Science, 91.53% pass rate on Mathematics SOLs, and 85.40% pass rate on Science SOLs. Fairfax Connector is a public bus service provided by Fairfax County, Virginia, United States, and is managed by the county government. [3] [6] The bus system provides service within Fairfax County, and connects to Metrobus, Metrorail stations, Virginia Railway Express, and other local bus systems.
