Founded by Bernard Kroger in 1883 in Cincinnati, Ohio, Kroger operates 2,719 grocery retail stores under its various banners and divisions in 35 states and the District of Columbia. The 20th store is now open in the Pittsburgh suburb of Murrysville, Pennsylvania. That store is a result of Giant Eagle closing their existing Murrysville location in July 2022 for five months to do extensive renovations.
