At a ceremony celebrated on December 2, 2003, the León family announced the creation of the Banco León, S.A., by a merger between the Banco Nacional de Credito (Bancredito). and Banco Profesional. Later, Banco León merge with Banco BHD becoming Banco Múltiple BHD León, S.A., the second largest bank in the Dominican Republic.
