The Belmont family of vampire hunters, once exiled from Wallachia, are called into action. The story centers around the eternal conflict between the vampire hunters of the Belmont Clan and the immortal vampire Dracula, who has once again been resurrected. The protagonist is 19-year-old Richter Belmont (Jin Horikawa / David Vincent), heir to the whip "Vampire Killer" and Simon Belmont's direct descendant.
The player-character Simon was originally named Peter Dante (a reference to Peter Cushing and Joe Dante), a vampire killer who was a grandson of Christopher Dante (a reference to Christopher Lee). At the time, whip attacks were planned to be in multiple directions, an idea later seen in Super Castlevania IV . [16]
